ABOUT

MARY E. NOLTE

Hi, I’m Mary. I’m a writer and editor based in Pittsburgh, PA. I love the outdoors, old houses, snuggly pets, gardening, and of course, books. I live with my partner and our tuxedo cat, Vincent.

I’ve been obsessed with writing and literature since the beginning. Some of my earliest memories are of my dad reading me poetry from A Child’s Garden of Verses. No matter what career I have pictured for myself throughout my life (veterinarian, nonprofit professional, appraisal appointment maker, etc.), in the back of my head I always knew but also I will write.

In 2013 I graduated from Mercyhurst University with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Spanish and a concentration in creative writing. I worked for four years in the non-profit world, writing grants and supporting other fundraising efforts. A couple of years after graduation I found myself yearning for time with fellow writers, the college atmosphere, and the classroom. So I decided to go back to school, and graduated from Chatham University with an MFA in Creative writing in 2017, focusing on fiction and travel writing. Shortly after, I left the nonprofit world and spent a few years at a corporation.

For the past two years, I’ve been working full-time with fellow writers as a developmental editor. I also co-founded a writer’s organization, The Writer’s Grove, with my forever writing date and fellow Chatham graduate, Kammi Trout. And, I am a freelance copywriter specializing in gardening.

Additionally, I am hard at work editing my own manuscript, a novel that was my thesis in grad school, while also in the process of starting the next one. I love writing short stories, and have several that are out on submission.
